Bathroom Organization & Design Tips for Maximizing Space and Storage

Storage is one of the biggest issues a bathroom can face. The lack of storage inevitably leads to clutter and disorganization. Personal grooming products can rapidly take over every available surface and towels will start to pile up on the side of the tub, over the door and on the floor. Organizing is hot! There are piles of products on the market just waiting to solve your organizing and space dilemmas. Choose from caddies, sliding drawer organizers, soap dispensers, under-sink storage solutions, boxes, baskets, bins and shelves. These products are available in colors and styles that will coordinate with your bathroom’s décor and can easily be found for very reasonable prices at places like Target, Lowes, Home Depot and Wal-Mart.

Great bathroom remodeling and design ideas!

The quickest way to make an immediate improvement is purge, purge, purge. Take everything out of the bathroom. Clean up and clear out the old soap bits, mostly empty shampoo bottles, mangled toothpaste tubes, cleaning products, medicines and any other old bath products that haven’t been used in the past six months. Based on what remains, you can determine what organizing items you really need. Only purchase the items you need or you’ll just be cluttering your bathroom with organizing products. Once you have your new purchases, sort and put your bathroom things into their new homes. Only bring back what you need and use. If it doesn’t belong in the bathroom, it’s not allowed back in!

Additional Organizing & Space Saving Tips

Go vertical with towel bars. By this I mean use the full height of the bathroom. Hang one towel bar at regular height then hang an additional one about 30” above the first. Add hooks to the back of the bathroom door to hold robes and even more towels. A hanging towel will dry a whole lot quicker than one that’s left in a heap on the floor.

If you don’t need that space on the back of the door for hooks, consider hanging a shoe organizer that will hold a variety of bathroom items (brushes, lotions, shaving supplies, cosmetics) in individual pockets. Designate a row of pockets for each family member so everyone has his or her own section for storage. Extra towels can be rolled up and placed in a bin, basket or on a shelf. Rolled towels don’t seem to take up as much space and can serve as a decorative element all on their own.

Rolled Towels & Apothecary Jars

Use apothecary jars or canisters for cotton swabs, disposable razors, extra bars of soap. A group of three jars in different sizes makes an attractive display on your bathroom countertop or on a shelf.

Stop tripping over the bottles on the shower floor. A shower caddy will get them up where you can see them and eliminate that safety hazard.

With everything back in its proper place, organized, neat and tidy, your bathroom will feel larger and work much more efficiently.
